Crazy About Hexagons – AHSC #101

I love the difference a little craft time makes!

The Atlantic Heart Sketch Challenge has another awesome sketch challenge this week.  I’m not sure how Michelle keeps coming up with them, but the inspiration is delightful.

I didn’t really want to work with flowers and had seen a cute card on Pinterest that I thought would work for this sketch.  Since we also have a huge amount of Mason Bees buzzing around the farm I reached for my Hexagons stamp set and Buzz and Bumble accessories.  I spent 20 minutes looking for my Buzz and Bumble paper, but wasn’t able to find it.  Hmmm, Kraft paper and Chocolate Ink to the rescue!

I kept the inside simple only lining the bottom with Scallop Punched Gold Shimmer Trim.  Here’s a hint, leave the lining on while you punch!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog I hope you’ll hop over the the AHSC to see what the amazing design team has been up to and if they recovered from their 100th Sketch last week.

Pretty Petals – AHSC #99

I knew it was a lost cause to strictly focus on scrapbooking…making cards is definitely my first love.  It is so fun to focus on The Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge and since they are sneaking up on #100, I decided I better continue my streak of playing along.

This is the sketch for this week

I haven’t done much with the Pretty Petals stamp set so I thought it would be a nice chance to play along and I had some inspiration from the Annual Inspirations Idea Book for my color scheme of Glacier, Sorbet, Gold Rush and Slate.

I stamped the Chicken Wire with White Pigment Ink to give just a little bit of texture.  I found a piece of Slate Ribbon in my stash and tied a bow (stop with the bows already Michelle, LOL!)  My flowers except the top one are popped up with some thin 3D foam tape (love this stuff).

I snapped a quick photo of the inside where I repeated the color combo…now it’s time to get this off in the mail.

If you haven’t stopped by the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge Blog, I highly recommend that you do.  There are terrific sketches and the DT is magnificent.  Even if you don’t play along look for some inspiration!

Thanks for stopping by!

Skylark PML – AHSC #98

I think I woke up knowing what I wanted to try for the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge this week before I even saw the sketch.  I have a drawer full of Picture My Life Cards that have found their way into a couple of projects, but not nearly enough.  The question became a little harder when I started thinking about which ones to use.

This is the sketch from AHSC #98

and this is my take – rotated 90 degrees.

Since I needed something a little cheery today I reached for my package of Skylark cards. This card is 5 X 7 and the entire front is framed with Kraft CS.  I then layered a piece of Sweet Leaf CS which I embossed and sanded to back the PML cards.  On the larger card I added a piece of Teal Shimmer Trim to give it a bit more dimension (there was a lagoon stripe on the card so I just covered it up.  The smaller card included the sentiment Hello World and I mounted it on a piece of Thin 3D Foam Tape (I’m gonna need to buy more soon).  There’s a little peak of the inside…I lined the bottom with a piece of Sweet Leaf CS cut at an inch wide and then layered a left over zip strip from the Skylark papers (remember I said I was nearly out of Skylark, well I found another pack so I’m happy again).

Keep Your Chin Up – AHSC #94

The Fed Ex driver showed up just in time…when I saw the Atlantic Hearts Sketch #94 Challenge this week I knew I wanted to play and I knew what stamp set I wanted to use!

I wanted this card to be cheery, but not overwhelming with color.  I chose to use a base of Flaxen layered with Sweet Leaf which I embossed with the Diamond Embossing Folder.  I then cut a shape from the Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge and added my sentiment and stamped the tree in the lower corner.  Both of these papers were distressed with Flaxen ink around the sides and mounted with thin 3D foam tape.  For just a touch of bling, I added Gold Bling Gems at the end of the Colonial White sentiment piece.

Thank you for stopping by and if you get a chance – pop over to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge and get some inspiration.

A Little Mojo for LOVE!

I’m not sure what overcame me this weekend, but I felt a little more than crazed about making cards.  I got an e-mail from a customer that she had made 5 box cards…woohoo, shout out to her creativity and my Cricut abilities!!! Not to be outdone I sat down at my desk and made 8 cards – 2 thinking of you’s and 6 Valentines!

I thought about sharing them all at one time, but what fun is that???  So you’ll have to keep coming back this week to see what I created…where to start, where to start?

I have two friends that are struggling with hard times, OK, truthfully there are probably more, but these two hit my heart and I decided I wanted to brighten their day a bit.  We all suffer from gray skies now and then and sometimes it’s just good to know that someone cares.

I felt like I was getting back to my roots of stamping with the simplicity of these cards…stamped in black and then colored with the amazing ShinHan markers.  I haven’t learned everything I can about these markers, but I can tell you that I love how the color flows.

I’ve had Angel Friends B1435 for a while, but just hadn’t got it inky…I know it’s going to get a lot of use now!  You can’t tell from this picture, but the flowers are popped up with our Thin 3-D Foam Tape (LOVE that stuff).  The Fundamentals paper in the back reminded me of clouds, but it only peeks through subtly.

DSCN1786My maternal grandmother always told me that beauty is only skin deep, but that doesn’t have to be so with your cards.  Make sure to give them a little pop of color – you’re sentiment gets lonely in there all alone!

This cute airplane is from the Lifting Spirits set.  I kept things simple by using the  Chevron Border punch and a couple of gold sequins.  This stamp set is one of my favorites as it has both an airplane and hot air balloon, both of which you see regularly in my hometown!

Another Color Challenge

Since my schedule has freed up a little I’m back in the craft room between loads of laundry, vacuuming and running a child to the school bus and other assorted appointments.

This morning I stopped by the Heart to Heart Challenge blog where I found another color challenge posted.

Cranberry, Gold Rush, Lagoon and Dessert Sand

I found my inspiration card on page 132 of the Annual Inspirations.  What a great place to gain inspiration and although it is not copied exactly the background stamp still provides the perfect backdrop for a cheery hello!

The card front is mounted on Kraft Cardstock which I felt coordinated with the addition of the Dessert Sand ink.  I finished the card by adding three Gold Gems in the bottom corner.

I’ll be giving this card away on my Facebook page so stop over there like my page and leave a comment.

Happy Stamping!

Playing With Scraps

I have an addiction to paper…it’s true!  My craft room is over-run with packets of colorful cardstock and beautiful background and texture papers and I decided it was time to do something with it.

I started with the long ago retired Florentine papers (there wasn’t a lot left) and I wanted to see what I could create.  I had enough for these 5 cards and if I wanted to add some extra paper I could probably come up with one or two more.

I challenge you to pull out your scraps and see what you can create!

Celebrating A Year–AHSC #52

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge is one year old and it’s one of my favorite places to go for inspiration!

I love Sketch #52 and instantly had lots of ideas running around my head.  I also knew that I had to step it up to be in the top 3 this week and HOPEFULLY win their prize package.   You can visit their blog and vote on the top 3 starting on Sunday and ending on Tuesday.

Living in the Pacific Northwest it seems that spring time brings more rainy days than sunny days so I wanted to bring some bright colors and deliver some sunshine of my own this week.  I also felt that it was important to have some fun texture.  I find that I’m using the embossing folders on most of the solid colored cardstock that I use on my card it really just adds some movement and dimension. (It will probably date me, but I still have my Fiskars crimper which got lots of use when it was the only option)

I started with Smoothie Cardstock and gave it a bright band of Twilight and layered a happy sunshine cut from the Cricut Artiste Cartridge and stamped from the Retired My Sunshine stamp set in Honey and Crème Brule, I then attached the Smoothie verse “You are the sunshine to light my day”  to the middle and added the pennant which was stamped from the retired Say It In Style set  in Twilight.  I’m not sure if you can tell that there is a bit of dimension on the center of the sun the Smoothie verse this came from adding additional Cricut shapes  (6 for the sun – 4 for the verse) which gives it a more solid look than using 3D foam tape.

I hope that you’ll stop by the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge and vote for your Top 3 Choices voting opens Sunday at midnight and runs through Tuesday at 11PM AST.

I’ll also be doing a drawing if you leave me a comment that you visited AHSC and voted you could get this card in the mail…ready for you to share with “your ray of sunshine”!

Thanks for stopping by!

Hello! Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #50

I have been on a card making frenzy this week.  I stopped by the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge and decided that this would be a great week for me to play along.  I loved the clean simple lines of this sketch.

Sketch 50 Scan 17a 04-07-2014

Of course I also reached for my favorite paper of the moment (Skylark).  As I looked over the papers I thought I’d go for a monochromatic look.  Lagoon is such a crisp color perfect for a cheery hello!

I started by embossing the bottom section of the Lagoon cardstock and then layered the B & T.  It’s hard to see the detail in the photo, but the striped piece has been scallop punched across the bottom edge.  I then layered a speech bubble from the Artiste Cricut Collection bundle with a piece of foam tape to give it a bit of dimension.  I finished it off simply with two Aqua Dots.

Thanks for stopping by.

Back To Action AHSC #26

After being gone for almost a week in beautiful Utah with three intense days of scrapbooking, I have to admit I’m happy to be home and back to my own papercrafting desk!  I have so many things to share that my blog should be busy as long as I can find enough time between loads of laundry to get them posted.

The first thing on my agenda was this weeks sketch for the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.  I have a couple of ideas for cards this week with this sketch so we’ll have to see where my journey takes me.

AHSC #26

This card features the Laughing Lola paper packet from Close to My Heart, it is one of my favorites from our Autumn/Winter Idea Book.  Although it features Laughing Lola Purple, I felt that the Gypsy Colored flowers coordinated.  I popped each of the flowers up with some foam tape and actually double popped the two most inside for a little added depth.

Thank you again for stopping by!

Happy Crafting,
