One more card to finish the week from the Boo Crew Collection. This is another pattern from the Make It From Your Heart Vol 5 How-to Book. If you’ve not tried one of our how to books I’d strongly suggest it. Each sketch comes with all the measurements on how to cut and where to place your papers. It really makes cardmaking and scrapbooking so much quicker.
I just loved the shocked look on this ghosts face…it actually made me giggle thinking about how he was scared that you found him in his envelope hiding place. I stamped the greeting directly onto the pattern paper…the USPS seems to be getting a little pickier about bumpy thick cards so I’m trying to tone it down just a bit with the extra layers. Did you see that my extra banners made it to this card?
I hope you’ve enjoyed a little Halloween inspiration this week. The Boo Crew special is available through the end of October or until supplies last. I just picked up another pack of the paper so I hope to bring you some more art to inspire you soon!
Thanks for stopping by…as always I love reading your comments so please take a minute and let me know what you think of the Boo Crew!
If you’ve been around for any length of time you know I LOVE the Close to My Heart How to Books. Make It From Your Heart Volume 5 is no exception. It features 15 patterns for two-page scrapbook layouts, 5 patterns for single-page layouts, and 10 patterns for standard-size 4¼” x 5½” cards.
I thought it would be fun today to show my process on how I use these sketches. I chose pattern 29 for it’s two rows of banners – the opposing page of each pattern gives two full color examples of what the Close to My Heart Art Department has created with the pattern, but here I’m showing you what I did.
The first thing I look at with a sketch is what else can I do with it. Can it be rotated to a horizontal or vertical layout? Can it be shrunk to a smaller card? Can it be enlarged to make a layout? These sketches are truly just jumping off points and the creating is all up to you!
In my first card, you’ll notice I kept pretty true to the sketch. I didn’t want to cut all those banners so I grabbed the Penant Banner Alphabet Thin Cut set and went to town die cutting the banners out of different colors of cardstock & patterned paper from the Boo Crew collection. I added pumpkins in Nectarine, Black & Ballerina and even cut my sentiment from a piece of the patterned paper.
My second card using the sketch I rotated, but still used the basic layout for the banners. I also mixed the shapes of the banners on this card, which I like a little better. I absolutely love the witches hat & broom from this stamp set.
What do you use for inspiration for your cards? I have always loved a good sketch, but I also look for color inspiration in the things around me. Next week I’ll share another card and where I got the inspiration. I hope you’ll come back and join me for the fun.
The Boo Crew special has been sitting on my desk for a while. Although orange and black are traditional Halloween colors, I am loving the addition of Ballerina and Wild Berry. Did you see the little Holographic Ghost sequins? There could be a shaker card in my future!
Next to Christmas cards, Halloween cards are one of my favorite to make. I tend to head “cute” not “scary” with smiling jack o’lanterns and flying bats and oh candy…can’t go wrong with Halloween Candy!!!
Did you know that Snickers Chocolate Bars are considered the number one treat for Halloween and that 40% of adults sneak candy from their own candy bowl ? (Gasp) What is your favorite Halloween Treat?
Thanks for stopping by…leave me a comment so I know you’ve been here!
Happy Friday and welcome to another week of the Color My Heart Color Dare. This week we are featuring the colors: Willow, Goldrush, Emerald, Black, Pewter, Pebble, Charcoal and White Daisy.
How are you liking the changes to the Color Dare? Two weeks should give you plenty of time to get a card made and linked up to our challenge.
I did a fun card with the Cats & Bats papers and stamps from the Cats & Bats Scrapbooking Collection. The front of my card is cut down 2 inches which leaves a little bit of the inside of the card peeking through. I used the die cut BOOO! to hid a few of the inside images. Although from the front my BOOO! is stamped in Pebble it was actually layered on a piece of Gold Rush so that adds a bit of intrigue to the inside of the card as well.
OK, now it’s YOUR turn! The full details on how to join the fun is in the sidebar of our homepage. Each color dare is open for two weeks so get your cards posted by 9:00 CDT on Thursday, October 5th!
While at the homepage – check out what the other design team members have created and leave them a little love (comments make our day)!
Welcome to the Joyful Stars September Blog Hop! If you are arriving here from my friend and fellow Color Dare DT member Michelle Loncar’s Blog you are on the right path…if you’re starting here, that’s fine too. We are a small circular hop and eventually you’ll end up right back where you started just by clicking the links at the ends of the posts.
I haven’t had much time to create this month (my little 50th Birthday cruise to Alaska ended with pneumonia 😦 but I snuck out the Craft Coop last night so I have a project to share)
I know it’s only September, but I am thinking Halloween and the Cats and Bats Paper is fulfilling every need I have. I loved both stamp sets that coordinate with the papers so much and they even have matching thin cuts so yep – I own them both!!! You can find the Cats and Bats papers and stamp sets in the new Holiday Expressions or on my web page https://papercraftingprincess.closetomyheart.com/retail/search.aspx?searchvalue=cats+%26+bats
My 3X6 card is layered on a base of Tangerine – the gray layer is actually one of the PML cards that has been cut down to size. Not a pocket scrapbooker – no worries these cards make perfect additions to your cards too! I cut the BOOO! from a piece of the Cats & Bats B&T that is an ombre black/gray combo. I popped up a spider and added a sprinkle of Cats & Bats Embellishments and my card is done.
Please don’t forget that Close to My Heart has released a special non-commissioned stamp set for the natural disasters occurring in many of the states and Canada.
100% of the proceeds from the Stronger Together stamp set will be donated to the Red Cross. You can order this set from your local Close to My Heart Consultant or directly from my webpage by clicking here.
Now it’s time to hop over to my buddy Debi Brile’s blog. I hope you enjoy the blog hop – come back and tell me what you think of the projects

Welcome to another Friday! This week at the Color My Heart Color Dare we are featuring the bright colors of the Jeepers Creepers Paper Packet. Color Dare #213 features the bright new colors of our Adventure Pallet and will surely brighten up your projects. I hope you’ll grab your inks and paper and link up.
I reached for one of my favorite sets combinations this month with the Jeepers Creepers Paper Packet and Monstrous Halloween. This is the last card to share of my upcoming October card class. Did you get registered?
When I was creating with this card I thought about adding a banner with the sentiment and then I thought – WAIT, it needs to be a speech bubble. Between Thin-Cuts and my Cricut prepping for card classes has become a lot easier!
Thanks for stopping by now make your way over to the Color My Heart Color Dare blog where you’ll see some more artwork from the other design team members. Make sure you leave a little love (comments) along the way…we like to know that you like what we’re doing and appreciate that you stop and visit!
It seems ever since I found this Cricut cut on the Artiste cartridge every year it makes at least one Halloween card to fill my list. This year I fell in love with the example in the Holiday Expressions catalog so I did my best at replicating it with the stamps I have. I LOVE the new Little Monsters stamp set, however after doing a quick inventory of the Halloween stamps that I have on hand decided to pass (at least for now).
I cut my bat twice – once in Black and again 1/4″ smaller in Thistle cut off the wings and mounted them to the front. I then hand doodled on some stitching with my journaling pen. I chose a stamp from Perfect Fit Halloween and mounted it over a piece of a Zip Strip from the Nevermore paper packet that was sitting on my desk and added a black swirl sparkle from my stash.
For the inside I layered White C/S sponged with Pomegranate (it looked like blood to me) stamped Happy Halloween and the bat from Frightfully Fun.
I’m not sure if it’s just because he’s my husband, but he told me that he liked it better than the sample in the catalog.
It’s been a while since I participated in the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge, it doesn’t mean I haven’t been stalking their blog for ideas and yesterday I had good intentions of getting a card entered, but the time difference doesn’t seem to compute inside my head. I might show that card later in the week because I was really proud of my outside the box thinking.
Sketch 68 appears to something that would fit the floral category, but with a package of Scaredy Cat paper sitting on the corner of my desk how could I not choose to do something with a Halloween theme?
There is actually very little stamping on my card – just the sentiment!
The ovals were cut using the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge and the Haunted House is from Artbooking. It reminds me so much of the haunted house from the Casper cartoon I watched as a child.
I hope you’ve enjoyed stopping by today and will check back again soon.
I love any reason to send a card and with Halloween upon us I decided this might just be the perfect card for the October 1, 2, 3 Craft! Blog Hop. I’m not sure if you noticed, but last month’s hop grew by one and I’m so excited that Darlys decided to play along with us. Her work is absolutely amazing!
I’m taking a chance that all will post right, because as you read this I should be on the way to Salt Lake City for a little “girl time” before the Close to My Heart Album Retreat this weekend. I have been looking forward to this little get-away for months and am excited that Betsy and I are going to be devouring the town two days before the Album Retreat starts. Literally “devouring”…she asked me what I wanted to do and I said EAT and SHOP and EAT and SIGHT SEE and EAT, I’m sure you get the picture! When I found out that Darlys was going to be there too that was just like frosting on the cupcake…I just wish Mary could have come along with us! Can you imagine?!
This month our challenge is to use Make It From Your Heart Pattern #19 – the Make it From Your Heart volumes (there are two of them currently) are essential guides for creating beautiful scrapbook layouts and cards.
My card inspiration was the clear pillow box on page 84 of the Autumn/Winter Idea Book. I deconstructed the card sketch a little, by adding a solid line of the Bronze Shimmer Trim down the edge (have I mentioned how much I love this stuff…I now own it in every color we offer – it is my GO TO accessory!) The paper packet is the stripe from Babycakes and I added chocolate and juniper as my accents. I fussy cut the skeleton from the Creepy Creatures set and accessorized him with the sentiment and pumpkin from Perfect Fit Halloween.
You can stop by my business page www.papercraftingprincess.ctmh.com to purchase the supplies to make your own Halloween Cards. I have included a shopping list for you at the bottom of this post.
Thanks again for stopping by! Now make sure you hop on over to see what Betsy, Darlys and Mary have in store for you!
