What vegetable was orginally carved for Halloween? The Irish brought the tradition of carving pumpkins into Jack O’Lantern to America. But, the original Jack O’Lantern was not a pumpkin. Pumpkins did not exist in Ireland. Ancient Celtic cultures in Ireland carved turnips on All Hallow’s Eve, and placed an ember in them, to ward off evil spirits.
Next to Christmas, Halloween is probably my favorite holiday to decorate for and that means making cards to share with friends too! I loved the Hello Pumpkin product line from Close to My Heart from the minute I got my first look at the catalog. I love that the stamps are cute (fits the challenge at Double Trouble) and the paper is very versatile, Close to My Heart makes sure to include papers that are not just for holiday.
Do you notice the cute border on the ghost card? It was made with the new Thin Cuts Decorative Borders. I can’t wait to try some of the other thin cuts so stay tuned!!!
I’m linking up over at Three Amigo’s Blog Hop Challenge #19 Autumn/Halloween you should think about linking up too! There’s also one more week to play along with Double Trouble.
Double, Double, Toil & Trouble Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble!
Can you believe Halloween is just around the corner…I seriously wonder where this year has gone…ok, seriously the last two weeks because it’s already time for another Double Trouble posting! I’m late and I’m going to be in more trouble than I already am!!!
I think Halloween is one of my favorite holidays…we have a large pumpkin carving party and I love to decorate for fall. I tend to like the cute things about Halloween and not the scary so I was thrilled when Trouble Maker challenged us to “Skip the Tricks and Share the Treats of Halloween” Share the cute and cheerful side of Halloween or Fall with cute pumpkins, witches & ghosts.
As usual…my partners have “Framed Me” and I need your help! My optional twist is that you include a frame somewhere on your card to help me get out of “trouble”.
Finally…Double Dare has asked up to link up to the Paper Girls Challenge – I hope no one goes cutting them apart – they seem like a nice group of crafters!!!
Well, now all that is out of the way…would you like to see what I’ve been up to?
That’s right, it’s a spooky cute Halloween Card. I started with a Nectarine Base and then added a B&T from the Hello Pumpkin paper packet – I layers on some Willow and Lagoon onto which I had stamped a fence – over the fence I layered a black frame which although you can’t see it well in the picture I painted with my new black shimmer pen! I then layered my sentiment over the top of that. I knew I wanted to include the ghost because the faces of the B&T paper reminded me of a scene in a Casper cartoon where you could only see the faces of the ghosts. Although most ghosts are typically white I stamped mine in Mint and colored it with the clear shimmer brush which has given it the look of being “glow in the dark”
I hope you’ve enjoyed my take on “cute” Halloween and that you’ll pop over to our design page and link up a project…and don’t forget to add a frame!!!
Happy Friday! It’s time for a new Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge. This week we are creating with the Colors: Clover, Lagoon & Nectarine and Kraft is optional.
I just finished a custom order for assorted birthday cards and this was one of the cards I came up with, most of the cards were for women, but my customer wanted a few masculine cards too!
The retired Jack Stamp Set is still available on the clearance section of my website here. The stamp set WITH matching die cuts is only $9.50 is a steal of a deal! The panel behind “Jack” is embossed with the plaid embossing folder. This was my customer’s FAVORITE card!
So now it’s YOUR turn to play along…you’ll find all the details on how to enter on the sidebar of our homepage, you’ll also find inspiration in artwork provided by other members of the design team. Make sure you visit their sites so you can show them a little love.
I always appreciate that you stop by and read the comments that you leave. Tell me what your favorite masculine card includes.
